Seriously, actually I think it needs more coverage.

Men aged 25-40 have a sky high suicide rate. On my way home from London last night trains were delayed by "an obstruction in overhead lines"... quite possibly euphemistically referring to the tragic end of another man who had enough.

We have to be tough provider types, compete in workplaces with other men constantly for the scraps from the table, but when with other men acceptable topics of conversation are football... and...

There is an epidemic of loneliness full stop and only fans is popular not just as wanking material but to feel some kind of connection in a cruel and increasingly lonely world with women who are often charming and beautiful, before you go back to unloving marriages you stay in for the kids and workplace stress.

So yeah, it's not in itself the issue, but it's part of the larger issue.

On here, a lot of us are sensitive musician types and we still often need to pour our hearts out in FIN, not much support out there for blokes sadly.

Joking aside though, and it's quite ironic that she shies away from the male attention (she keeps posting subtly she's gay all over the place, mind you women always used to tell me that) as again, the popularity of the youtuber is also part of a need for connection in a lonely world.

Most likely. I once had a woman come up to me in a bit of a rough street and get very close and flirty, so I thought she was trying to steal my wallet or something. After a while of me feeling extremely uncomfortable she said “ah you’re actually married aren’t you?” and I didn’t know what she meant but then she started saying I was a nice person and left.
Probably a week or more later I realised she was a prostitute, she’d seen my wedding ring and thought that’s no reason not to offer herself to me.

Commenting on the actual study. Another plausible explanation is that married men have higher, and more disposable income, wheras single men tend to be younger and less solvent and may as a result use more free p0rn.

That's a very simplistic view. If the men in question (mostly married) wanted to see skin, they can get that for free pretty much anywhere there's an Internet connection.

The loneliness is the point, so a parasocial relationship that simulates an actual connection with another human being is actually what sets OF subscribers apart from your notional "horny buggers".

The fact that it's becoming necessary on a widespread scale is a serious problem for society. It's already causing massive issues in Japan, and it won't be long before it does here in the west too.

I wonder how many people here know that institutions such as the Tate Gallery and the British Museum, just to name two off the top of my head, also run Only Fans account, because social media sites such as Facebook and X, formerly Twitter, under it's previous owners had branded both institutions as pornographers using their platforms to post pornographic images - the British Museum for example had it's Twitter account suspended many times for posting photos of very old statues of Roman and Greek fertility gods among other images that where not sexual in nature or titillating in any way shape or form.

Which raise a hell of a lot of questions about the validity as well as reliability, and methods used for the ''study'' linked to in the OP, for example how many Only Fans accounts are actually user accounts owned by a person instead user accounts owned by education facilities, for example how many art colleges/teachers/tutors/lecturers will have Only Fans accounts for students to view and study the works of ''Old Masters'' the same can be asked about students of history and even historical reenactment groups - a great number of these groups have had their social media accounts suspended across multiple platforms for things like ''glorifying violence''.

I'm not an expert but respectively...

1. It is porn but it's not about the porn, there is enough to keep you in upper body exercise for the rest of your life for free out there.
2. Yes I believe you do, sort of, through comments etc - you are in mostly small communities, at 10 quid a sub you only need 30 to 50 to make a living from it, and yes some of them do sleep with their fans.
3. Live streaming is part of the platform I believe.

Without wanting to also sound like an expert... it's social media, isn't it? You pay to follow people and access their content, including direct messaging as well as whatever they share to their pages. No different to instagram or tiktok in that regard, only paid-for and mostly porn. But it'll lend itself to those susceptible to developing parasocial relationships online. I suspect in a lot of cases any content is managed by a team, including personal messaging, but that will feel far more like a real relationship with a human being than any random pornhub video.
