WTB - Tele tuners

RobDaviesRobDavies Frets: 2983
I was looking to buy some better tuners for a cheapo tele/Strat hybrid I bought online a few years ago.  The current tuners are a bit weedy and don’t seem to hold tune very well.
I’ve bought a Wilkinson ashtray bridge and was going to buy the Wilkinson tuners but looking at the dimensions, I’m not sure they’ll fit.

Any recommendations/stuff for sale?

They don’t have to be vintage style but I’d rather not have to drill too many more holes.

My recommendation is a properly cut nut, made from bone or synthetic ivory.

I have set of Wilkinson 'heads with Kluson-style gear casings but drilled posts rather than split. I need to check whether their finish is nickel or chrome.

Johnnyseven's Gotoh set will be superior.
    Be seeing you.

Will they fit? And how much are you looking for?

Cheers.  The nut does look crappy…. But that’s a job for someone more skilled than me, and I don’t own any files.

Remove the tuners that are on the neck, measure the hole diameter.

Gotoh SD91 tuners use an 8.8mm bushing, so you may need to do a little work on the holes to get a proper fit. It’ll also be worth while plugging the wonky screw holes on the back with some dowels and starting from scratch. Get a fresh 2mm drill bit for piloting the new screwholes.

The gotoh tuners mentioned in the previous post sound like they will be a worthwhile upgrade.

Thanks.  I’m tempted not to get into doing too much work…. The guitar is a £100 Alan George thing I bought on a whim a couple of years ago and I’m upgrading some bits to make it playable for my lad.

Anymore than fifty odd quid and it would probably be more sensible to go and buy a used Squier tele or similar.

The ones I have are SD91s, pretty sure the dimensions are on the Gotoh website if you want to check if they'll fit.

£53 new so i'd be looking at 2/3 that plus postage to you. I did have a thought though, I could keep them and swap them for the stock Fender tuners on one of my other Teles and you can have the Fender tuners for 15 quid posted.
