Hi All,
Here's the odd amp of the day - the lesser spotted Seymour Duncan 84-40 1x12 Amp. It's from 1989/1990.
I recall the idea was to base an amp on a Vox AC30 but with the gain of a Boogie. I'm not sure if it does that, but I think it does sound great!
It's a two channel class A amp (3x12AX7 preamp valves, and a quartet of EL84 Valves) with a buffered effects loop and Acutronics spring reverb. The speaker is a Seymour Duncan King Tone 12" unit - I'd guess made by another company and rebadged.
The combo is pretty small and weight 18.6kg
As well as the usual controls for the channels - which share an EQ, there are three pull switches on the the pots:
1. Pull for 6db gain boost for both channels on the clean channel overdrive control
2. Pull for Bright on the channel 1 (cleaner) volume control
3. Pull for 10db gain boost on channel 2 (dirty) overdrive control
Obviously I run it on channel 2 with the overdrive maxxed out and both boost switches pulled out and the master volume as low as possible.
Seriously though, dynamic to play and you can easily control the sound from the guitar - I used to love that it does that compression, sag and bloom thing - which I found flattered my rough and sloppy playing.
It's a pretty loud amplifier and you can get a lot of variation of tones from very clean and dry to excessive overdrive and distortion.
It takes a latching footswitch to change channels, I'm sure I have one I used with it here somewhere - I'll dig it out.
I've had two of these over the years one from around 1994 for 10 years and used it for everything. After that one went, I was missing it so I bought this one opportunistically a few years ago.
I was happy because the recent one sounds and
smells like the old one did.
I dont think this one has been played that much, and it still has the inspection tag attached on the back from 1990. Its in good condition overall, there is some pitting on the chrome on the handle mountings and corner protectors.
Comes with padded non original cover.
It's a pretty loud amplifier and you can get a lot of variation of tones - lightweight, and a lot of fun.
Now you too can have an amp which will match your pickups - and one which probably no one else has ever heard of!
Selling because I have just bought a Bogner Atma, and I dont need two amps, especially as I use my FM3 for almost everything these days.
Let's say £295 or near offer - collection from close to Chippenham in Wiltshire or meet within 20 odd miles or so.
Interested in trades but not sure for what yet -
Here’s a little off the cuff demo vid I did for a prospective buyer to illustrate the breadth of sounds:

Most people who have owned one of these were fond of them.
I've had some very nice comments from other owners past and present on my facebook listing about this thing, some great stories too, for example Robbie Gladwell playing one to great effect years back at a Gibson night somewhere with the thing sounding incendiary!
