Eko Ranger 12 string at CODA

What's Hot
PSA - just spotted an Eko Ranger 12 string for sale at Coda music.  There always seems to be a lot of interest in these so I thought it might be worth posting a link

https://www.coda-music.com/secondhand/eko-ranger-xii-12-string-secondhand.html

No interest myself as I’ve got a lovely Guild 12 string.

That's a *very* nice example, possibly one of the best I've ever seen. It's a lovely colour - they vary a lot - and appears to be in stunning condition for one, including the hard-to-replace (or often badly replaced already) machineheads, which are a non-standard size.

The only possible flaw I can see is that in the three-quarter view it looks like the bridge may be tilting forward a bit, which they can suffer from. Other than that, it looks fantastic and I really think the price is a very fair to a bargain these days.

That brings back so many fond memories of when I first started to learn to play back in the mid 70s. That 12 string was my first guitar crush.. well that and a Les Paul Custom.
They were heavy beasts  but owning one back then was almost a rite of passage.
    Wonderful stuff.

    Hold my beer!

It does seem to be a very warm, saturated colour & as you say, is a very good looking example at a fair price.

Couple of old shots of mine (never had a scratchplate fitted from new, one owner, me).

Yes, that’s an absolute beauty too! I personally prefer the dark one, but that’s certainly a spectacular bit of wood in yours. My singer’s 6-string one that we often use for writing songs is more like yours, although flamed rather than quilted. The bridge looks nice and flat on yours too. I’ve never seen one without a pickguard - which was made like that - before either.

Eko's are indeed a peculiar bunch of guitars given the number of variations of woods used (& laminates) neck plate shapes & things like the rosette designs. Their record keeping is as good as Gibson's... so loads of the model history & lineage is just missing.
Mine was bought from JG Windows in Newcastle Central Arcade in a sale in 1981. I queued for a couple of hours before opening, to be sure I got it as it was the first time I had enough spending money to buy a guitar, just over £300 by todays reckoning.
I still have the 'case candy' including the truss rod adjustment tool & hang tag!  Sad old bastard D

    @Kittyfrisk ; that's not sad, man.

I wish I'd kept stuff to remind me of past guitars.

    Well done you :)

Yeah, I reckon if you can keep ephemera, you should. It has nothing much to do with the guitar as such, but it's part of the history & can awaken happy memories long forgotten.
I was thinking about contacting Coda & offering them a proper Eko star head string peg, as I haven't needed any of my three spares in over 40 years.
The one odd replacement on their's just looks so wrong to me, I'd have changed the lot

@Kittyfrisk ; I'm sure they d be happy to have it.

I have a few bits that belonged to past guitars and banjos. Nothing really much, just truss rod tools, bridge pins, stuff like that.

    :)
