I have a ever growing pile of half finished projects gathering dust. Some I want to revisit, but there are also some that are just not doing anything and could be relatively nice guitars with just a little work. I likely won't get around to it, and it is delaying me progressing with other stuff. They all have flaws that stop me putting them together and selling at full price, but not things that will stop them being good guitars, or even visible once assembled
First up is this Iceman style I built about 10 - 12 years ago.
It's built with top quality woods - 2-piece mahogany body top bound in black, birdseye maple neck, ziracote fretboard. Neck is double bound in ebony and maple and has a wenge accent in the scarf
weighs 7lb 6oz like this. about 8lb assembled.
Includes a Schaller 3DS roller bridge.
Oil and wax finish on body and neck
The neck still seems nicely straight with frets in good condition. It has 2 CF bars and a 2 ways truss rod (heel access)
It has light scratches from storage, i think these will steam out well.
misrouted pickup routes. Most of this is covered by the rings except a bit of chip out behind the bridge that is largely hidden once assembled (see pics)
Slight glue stains round some of the binding on body sides in a couple of spots, it just stopped the oil and wax taking evenly in a few spots. I also assume I stained this darker than the mahoganies natural shade.
The headstock angle is a bit low, so also includes a string bar to ensure enough downward pressure over the nut.
The nut width is about 44mm, and 21mm deep, increasing to 22.5mm by the 12th fret
It should go together well with just a few parts as an easy project, or could be stripped and reworked in numerous ways. If there is no interest I may one day metal top it instead
Drilled for 3 pots, a 3-way toggle, and a mini switch
Needs:
Nut
Tuners
Strap buttons
Jack plate
Back Plate (will see if i have one suitable)
Pickups,
Electrics
Strings
£350 + postage

For me it is unfinished (and in this post) as there is an error in the truss rod routing on headstock i was going to make a cover for, really it needs a new control plate and I missed some sanding marks on the transitions of the neck that would make me want to refinish it before asking more money for it. Also the glue for the side dots bled into the douglas fir a little making them look slightly uneven. You may also want to consider upgrading the pot as it feels a bit loose in use, but some like them low friction i guess. Just a few little jobs really
It was also an experiment with unusual woods and construction. It's a thin sycamore body paired with a quartersawn douglas fir and maple neck. The douglas fir is incredibly stiff and resonant making it quite a spanky little guitar. It has stayed dead straight since built. The deep set neck also goes all the way to the pickup cavity so this join is about as secure as it can be
The plate is one of my engraving attempts. Guitar looks fine without it if it is not your thing, but there is a bit of space around the pickup without it.
Finish is all aged nitro. Think of it as a Gibson version of Candy Apple red. It used a goldtop style basecoat with analine red top coats. So it is fading to orange, the red may one day disappear altogether.
Pickup is a Mojo Gold foil in filtertron format. It's 24" scale and all has a bit of a pawnshop vibe, but plays quite nicely.
