Restringing mistake?

What's Hot
I recently restrung my acoustic and made a mistake on the B string, winding it on the wrong way round on the tuning post. Unfortunately I clipped the excess string before realising the mistake.

It seems to sound Ok and according to the tuner it does intimate correctly.

My question is - how much of a problem could this incorrectly fitted string be?

Any advice appreciated.

Depending on the relative positions of the nut slot and the tuner post the string may be at an angle and they’ll be more friction on the string that may make it harder to tune. But I assume it’s a plain string it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. There may be a bit more wear to the nut, but that is marginal.

You should be ok until the next string change but if you’re worried you may be able to refit correctly depending on how many turns you have on the post or just pop a new string on.

Just gently remove it, make sure bridge end is loose, then turn through 180 degrees and wind it back on.

Leave it alone. It's doing no harm and trying to remove and refit it can easily end up breaking it.

sin(5) = 0.087 I'd be tempted to leave it considering it's also and unwound string. If you have OCD then there should be loads of excess on it anyway so if you did unwind it and clip the first inch off it and make some attempt to straighten it then it should be ok to re-string.
[footnote: I'm a bit OCD so I personally would have to re-string it  :)]

as long as you've got enough windings around the post, no problem at all re-winding it,   - use a pair of thin nose pliers if needs be to hold it in place for the first couple of winds.
Done it before plenty of times over the years,  leccy and acoustic
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

    This depends what string brand.

But Strings Direct sells singles so, if it bothers you, you may be able to buy just that one string.

on guitars with narrow headstocks, I wind the E strings the wrong way to get a better angle into the nut slots

B strings are usually plain steel. The conventional wisdom is that, for plain strings, every brand is the same as every other brand. That's not true, but it's often close enough for practical purposes. This is one example.

    @Tannin ; I should have been specific.

When. I said it depends what string brand, I meant Strings Direct only sell singles of a few brands (apparently), though most are plain steel anyway so......
