So here is something interesting to those who love a bit of tweed. Basically I wanted to build an amp, I was going to start with the fender champ circuit with an 8” speaker…. Then BYOC released a kit called the Tweed Royale. Basically this is a Tweed Deluxe, Tweed Champ and lots of other fender sounds in-between. You have a rotating on switch linked to a VVR for volume reduction. the standby switch goes from standby to Single Ended or PUSH/PULL options (push pull is louder) so 5W vs 12W. There are for inputs for bright and Normal option. linked to these inputs are the Bright volume and Normal volume. there os a knob for tone which can be switched out of the circuit (all the way left) for champ sounds when the Cut knob is all the way up. for tweed deluxe sounds, switch the CUT knob out of the circuit (all the way left and Switch the tone knob into the circuit. Its an ingenious system and when allied to the PP/SE knob you can get all the tweed sounds you could need from one amp.
Since building it, work, and other life events have meant I haven’t been able to play it so its sat unused since completion (and testing) and now with a wedding on the way I need to liquidate everything but the essentials.
So, the amp: I took the stock kit and I’ve added NOS JAN 6v6 valves and rectifier. As well as this I’ve mounted the chassis in a lovely IROKO cabinet with OXBLOOD grill cloth. For strength I have affixed the Amp chassis to the cabinet by bolting it to aluminium rightangle (shelf brackets) then they are bolted to the wood in four places for strength.
To ensure the best tone possible the Speaker fitted to this amp is a top of the range Jensen Alnico P12N speaker with protective magnet bell fitted for the full vintage look.
For usability the amp has been fitted with A VVR voltage reduction kit to lower the voltage going to the output valves and therefore acting like a much more efficient and tonally pure attenuator. This allows you to get the full tone of 12W of tweed deluxe in Push-pull mode but lower the output to neighbour friendly volumes. It’s a great system and should be fitted to all amps really.
I’m afraid this is local collection only due to the weight/value of the amp. Hopefully you’ll agree that I’ve priced this fairly, from a boutique amp maker this would easily cost upwards of £2500 so I’m asking £599 for this immaculately finished and specced TWEED beast!
