WTB: Low/medium output splittable gold (or uncovered) humbuckers for my PRS Hollowbody Spruce

I really like my PRS Hollowbody Spruce Piezo, but I don’t dig the pickups - they are beautifully rounded and warm, but I need pickups which are a bit more versatile and have a bit more brightness to them, and which can be split to get vaguely Stratty sounds. They need to not be too hot as they would overpower the piezo signal in mixed mode, as well as obliterating the more acoustic nature of the instrument.

They currently have PRS Archtop pickups which are 7k in the bridge and 6k in the neck.

In a dream world I’d get some gold DGT pickups like in my DGT, but they are impossible to get. Some options I’m considering are Bare Knuckle Mules or Stormy Mondays or Old Guards, Cream-T BFG Bangers, or PRS 57/08s.

Let me know what you’ve got, or even recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Don't discount Gibson Burstbuckers. I've A 61 in the neck and BB2 in the bridge of my CU 22 and both split very well using the DGT partial split method. I voice the screw coil hence the 61 which has the screw coil wound hotter.

It currently has the Archtop pickups. They’re dark and warm and perfect for that traditional rolled-off jazz tone, but not for anything needing a bit more bite and attack.

    the Archtop pickups
I wanted to check that they were not the McCarty Treble and Bass pair … which are splittable and are what I happen to have.
    Be seeing you.

Tonerider AC2 and AC4 are both seriously good too. Both scatterwound and the AlNiCo 2 version is a little brighter…

  • Bump to say I’d consider uncovered pickups (to which I could add gold covers) too.

Toying with trying some of the pickups I currently have, I have a pair of Bareknuckle True Grits (13.7k/9.7k) and a Suhr SSV/SSH+ pair (17k/8k), though I am concerned they might be a little too hot to balance with the piezo pickup. I’d likely be playing the neck pickup split most of the time, so perhaps it might work out.
