UNWITHDRAWN Kingsley Harlot V3 straight swap for KOT?

Vaguely thinking of swapping Harlot V3 for KOT if anyone is interested. I'm kind of taking a chance on this as I know how good the Harlot is but I haven't tried a KOT. Bloody GAS. You know what I'm saying.
Anybody?

Don’t do it. Swap something else for a KOT if you can. Then you can put the Harlot and KOT against each other then sell the one you don’t prefer… Which will likely be the KOT

Thanks for the probably very wise advice Brad. Take it you're a Kingsley man. It's a great pedal and it's just thro boredom that I have even considered it.

  • Buy a cheaper clone of the KOT, since they come highly regarded, then see if you like it?

I’d advise against selling the Harlot. I did, and have recently bought one back!

Haha you could say that

I think a lot depends on your personal playing situation and set up. I A/B’d the KOT (amongst others) against my Kingsley stuff both at home and live and while a good pedal, it didn’t stand up IMO. I did like the yellow side, but overall it just felt a little brittle and stiff in comparison.

That being said, I use a clean amp as a pedal platform and by all accounts people rave about the KOT into an amp on the edge of break up. So it could very well be an application thing and it just didn’t work with my set up.

I agree with @smudge_lad see if you can find a clone for now to compare. If you sell the Harlot you’re either back on the waiting list or you’re looking used but for stupid prices.

Ironically, and having owned both, I prefer the KOT as more usable and focused. The Harlot is so powerful in its output a lot of it is unusable.

  • The Kingsley pedals seem to be well regarded on the forum. Are they the kind of pedals that sound great in the bedroom, but not in a live mix? Have seen the KOT on a lot of pro boards, but never a Kingsley.

Hi guys. Yes I agree with @Gassage. It is a very powerful pedal and that maybe the only fault, not being able to use it to its full extent.  It does sound great in a live situation. It's a difficult one, I'm one way then the other cos as you say @jamesguitar you see a lot of KOT's about but very few Kingsley. Doh!

I agree too........it's overwhelming and a bit too thick when you crank it up.In many ways it's like trying to get the best out of your Porsche GT3 on the road ......too much power to even be half used .
Yes the KOT sounds best into an amp that is already starting to break up or it is brittle - same for effectrode Blackbird but it's a touch softer .

Quite the opposite in my experience. They do still sound good at quieter volumes, but they really shine when things are loud and cut through a mix better than most things I’ve tried.

Regarding not being seen on ‘pro’ boards (I’m not a fan of that term personally…) there will be a number of factors at play that I don’t think have anything to do with how the pedal actually performs.

I do agree about the V3 pedals being very hot regarding output though and that was the case for the Minstrel V3 I had. Interesting that others have experienced that too.

Don't get me wrong- I love all Kingsleys.- the Page is a masterpiece and all the others are incredible- this is a choice between two of the best pedals out there.

  • Also agree that it’s a powerful pedal, and depending how you’re using it, it could be trickier than the KOT to tame, but it DEFINITELY shines in a live situation. I’ve had a ton of compliments after using the Harlot into a clean amp.

As @Gassage says - it’s a choice between two of the best out there. I still stand by my earlier comment though - get yourself a cheap clone of the KOT and see how you get on. Definitely an easy way to get your fix and see which you prefer

Anybody. I've swung in the direction of a KOT again. Rightly or wrongly.

I had a KoT and a Rafferty Raff of Tone at the same time and I really couldn’t tell the difference between them. If you can find a decent clone it would be an economical way of finding out if the KoT is for you. Good luck with the hunt.
(P.S. I’ve had two KoTs and sold them both.)
