Nasty buzz with capo at 7

I have a mid-rage tanglewood, which has been great. I've recently be playing a couple of things with a capo on the 7th fret. There's a really nasty buzz coming from somewhere and I just can't track it down. I don't think it's string against fret (but it might be), and I don't think it's a bit of the capo itself resonating. Any ideas on likely causes?

Does it do it at the same place without the capo?

Probably the strings between the capo and the nut buzzing against the frets. Try tying something round the neck there or put a duster under the strings and see if it stops.

If so you can sometimes fix it with a tiny truss rod adjustment, not enough to affect the overall relief much. Which direction is anyone’s guess...

  • Thanks.  I appreciate the answers.

I spent time on it last night. The sound is definitely the G string when it's open to the capo. It goes away when I lightly damp the string between capo and bridge. It doesn't happen if I fret the G string at 7 with my finger instead of the capo.

I think I may try an adjustable capo.
