I succumbed to GAS in my usual way, namely months of intensive research before I finally give in. This is borne out by the fact that it looks, plays, and sounds *exactly* how I thought it would. Here it is next to my 2001 310 for comparison. They sound strikingly similar.

I was hoping for some milky streaks but I got a couple of orange birthmarks. It all adds to the unique woodiness of the thing:

Rosewood back has nice colouring and grain, but that veneer is paper-thin:

Also, the neck is apparently “tropical mahogany” but it’s as pale as maple. The satin finish is lovely on the entire guitar. It’s hugely playable despite feeling a tiny bit cramped - although I rarely have trouble switching between different feeling guitars. The compact body shape and superb sound ensures that it will get played a lot.

    I’m happy with 13s, I’m sure that’s part of the piano-like tone and similar to putting 11s on a Fender Jaguar - they feel like a lighter gauge on the shorter scale. I’ll swap out the plastic bridge pins for ebony ones when I re-string though.

    BTW I got it from Reidys, never bought anything from them before but ordering it at 1pm for it to arrive the following morning before 9am is impressive.

    Although it played nicely out of the box, I thought the action was a bit high, so I bought one of those string action gauges from ebay. There are apparently cheap and nasty ones about, but I got one branded “Baroque” and it’s pretty good. Much easier than using a steel rule - recommended.

    Turned out to be 3.25mm at the low E and 2.75mm at the top. I had a spare Tusq saddle so I popped the apparently inferior Nubone saddle out and  sanded down the new saddle. Now it’s 2.5mm at the low E and 2.25mm at the top. I also replaced the plastic bridge pins with ebony Taylor pins.

    Nice one. They’re a proper ‘investment’ guitar, i.e. you pay good money for them and play it loads over many years.
