Jack socket position

I was looking at Maton guitars the other day and noticed they seem to have their jack plugs on the corner of the body whereas most have the jack and strap pin combined. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to either?

Advantages of a side-mounted jack - you can use a proper reliable one instead of the terrible barrel jacks which all endpin jacks are based on, and it's easier to loop the cable under the strap as a strain relief.

Disadvantage of a side-mounted jack - if you pull the cable really hard, you're liable to rip the side out of the guitar, or at least split it. Using a right-angle plug and running the cable under the strap helps avoid the risk.
