Advice on plastic finger picks please

I have tried a set of metal ones, and don't like the sound
I need some for Lap steel really, and would be interested to try sometimes on a dreadnought

I would like to try ones that are as short as possible (i.e wear the end of the pick is as near as possible to the end of my fingers)

Any advice please

I’ve tried these and thought they were rather good, shorter than other finger picks so are pretty much what you’re asking for.

After a couple of years experimentation I have settled on Dunlop steel ones on my fingers and a D'Addario plastic thumb pick for lapsteel. Initially I didn't like the plastic thumb pick but for some reason it works best now. I wear the fingerpicks so that very little protrudes beyond my fingertip, and I bend them to follow the contour of my fingers. Another observation was they don't need to be super tight, I bent mine just enough that I can slip them on and off without a struggle. It might take a while to reach this point, also, I never use fingerpicks for conventional guitar, maybe that's another personal preference though.

Although I much prefer using fingertip / nail I've tried several diffrent types of fingerpicks (plastic and metal) and the Alaska piks are the best I've found. I also got mine from Strings Direct. Be sure to get the right size and trim them (following instructions on the Alaska website) to get the best results.

I prefer a conventional Dunlop plastic thumbpick to the Alaska equivalent though.

I couldn't get on with the Alaska metal ones. In the end I bit the bullet and learned (pedal steel and banjo) with the conventional type that go under the finger rather than over the nail. Does take some getting used to but there's a reason why those are conventional, I guess.

I prefer to play with fingernails, but some guitars need a bit more force, and trash my nails

Try sticking one in very hot water for 30 secs to soften, then molding it to your finger
