I've been working with a number of youth groups throughout January, as I was commissioned to help the young people write and record songs to share with their peers to combat knife crime and youth violence. 

The first one is now finished, and I thought you might like to see what a bunch of teenagers with no musical knowledge or ability have produced, with a fair amount of help from us!

    Hi bud ....well hats off for helping these folks do something constructive instead of destructive,..

    You say no musical ability ?...didnt they play the instruments ?

    Sounds cool ...hopefully some of them will see something positive in this and move onto more music  ;-)

    No, they didn't play the instruments. We had 8 short sessions to help them write their song and get it recorded. 

    They came up with about 3 pages of words and a general theme/ sound. I then played around with chords and their vocal melody and tweaked it. Recorded the vocals with me just playing the chords and then I recorded all the other instruments and drums at home. The key goal for the project was them coming up with the song and me then helping them realise it.

    The key was all me..  I fancied a new songwriting challenge! Used everything but the diminished too! :D

    Sorry @mrkb I missed your second question. 

    They've obviously heard the unmixed versions during recording, but didn't hear the final version as there was a bit of drama over some weed at the end of the last session astonished
