Best place to buy Elixir strings?

What's Hot

My new acoustic comes with Elixir Nanoweb 12-53 strings and I have to say they are rather nice! That being said I'd like to purchase a couple of spare sets, Strings direct are doing them for £16.99 a set which is a bit steep. I've found a guy selling them new on eBay for £9.99 a set but I'm worried they may be knock offs at that price, is there anywhere else trustworthy that do them at a more reasonable price please?

Edit: Or are there other brands I should be looking at in that size?
Tomorrow will be a good day.

I get my elixirs from amazon, can't remember price but fairly sure not £16.53, but I have prime so save the delivery.

Edit - just checked last set were £13.99 seem to be £14.99 at the moment varying prices for split (mine were 80/20 and I had 11s I think.

  • I've generally used strings direct, sometimes eBay sellers.  Do be wary of any that look particularly cheap on eBay, there are fakes around.  They occasionally do 3 for 2 box sets, like now......https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/sets-c865/multipacks-tone-packs-c833/acoustic-guitar-c835/elixir-nanoweb-phosphor-bronze-12-53-acoustic-guitar-strings-3-for-2-bonus-pack-p13333

Are they made by hand maidens of the far east ???  Expensive for a set of strings :)

The electric strings are cheaper, whether its the nanoweb process on acoustic strings or just the materials I'm not sure.

@BahHumbug Thank you for the link, I didn't see them when I went on there. Perfect.

  • You're very welcome @zepp76.  I'm just thinking about snapping up a pack while they're available.

@guitartango, yes they aren't cheap, but it's about the going rate for a coated phosphor-bronze type of guitar string.  All I knows is they sound good on my acoustic guitars and they continue to sound good for ages.  im just glad I don't play violin.

  • HotRox currently have the Elixir 3-for-2 packs on offer. Personally, I wouldn't buy from eBay.

Strings are important bits on your guitar.  Buy from your local music shop.  Keep the money local.  Your music shop might just still be there when you need to buy your next guitar......

I don't think they're allowed to export Elixirs.

  • I purchased some about month ago when they had their free international shipping video and it didn’t seem to be a problem. Not sure if the rules have changed since but it’s worth a shot!

Twice as expensive and they last five times as long.

Twice as expensive ... last five times as long
... and sound a couple of weeks old from the moment that they first go onto a guitar.

This is annoying if you expect/desire the brightness of brand new phosphor-bronze acoustic or steel electric strings. On the other hand, it keeps guitars sounding fairly consistent throughout the life of the strings. This may prove important in recording situations.
    Be seeing you.

  • Just tried out a set of Elixir Nanoweb 80/20's, I do like them but they are quite expensive and don't come in 10 pack sets unfortunately. Best I can find is the 3 set ones on StringsDirect.

Thanks for this, I've been using stringsandbeyond.com for years but have never been able to buy Elixirs. Just placed an order now and it's let me do it. Not sure when this changed, but glad it has!

for Electrics, there's a free set of 10-46 on the front cover of Guitar magazine this month

  • I've bought the 3 for the price of 2 box sets from Amazon.  Recently bought 3 boxes of Optiwebs so I won't need to buy again for ages given how long they last.
