I had the 15 watt head, it was nice. Very clean all the way up and very punchy, not a massive fan of TS's though

Damn it, that's another parcel I'm going to have to explain to her indoors. I guess I've got about five days to think of an excuse!

You may have to think of a faster excuse :P. In the style of  Craig David -  I ordered from Thomann on a Tuesday and by the Friday of the same week it turned up.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

    Uh-oh!

Mind you, if it turned up this Friday, that'd be good. Get it? Friday, good, cos it's Good Fri ... Ok, I'll get my coat.

Well, I bought one of these, a 5 watt valve champ style amp and tube screamer all for £90 approx. inc. shipping.  What could possibly be not to like?

First it arrived with a European plug and the cable is hard wired into the amp ... fail!   Fortunately I had a travel adapter to hand.

What a crap amp!  Trigger volume control, very little volume (5 watts my bottom), sounds more solid state than valve, harsh and nasal.  Very unpleasant distortion with humbuckers.  The built in tube screamer doesn't sound like any tube screamer pedal I've ever tried .... just makes the amp sound worse.

So I'll be returning it on the basis of the wrong plug for a UK sale and getting my money back please.

@ESchap Thanks for your mini review (wisdom given).

I was about to buy one of these "bargain" amps but you have saved me from dropping a clanger.

Probably why they have so many remaindered.
    :-S

Thomann are going to love me!  ..... B-)

They've offered me an "adapter" to sort out the wrong plug issues but I'll be declining on the basis of "electrical safety" and getting a refund.

Mine finally arrived yesterday, and my impressions are not quite as bad.

Yes, it isn't very loud. I've just been A/B-ing it with a Blackstar HT1 head, both through the same 1x12" cab and with the same guitar. With both amps on full (and overdrive maxed out) the Ib is only very slightly louder. And I think the Blackstar had a slightly louder clean sound, although it depends how "clean" you want your cleans. So the Blackstar's 1 watt seemed to match the Ibanez's 5 watts! But I really didn't find the volume control trigger happy; it has a very nice smooth curve from 0 to max.

Incidentally, the built-in speaker is pretty efficient - it was noticeably louder than the 1x12" I was using.

What was really different was that the Ib is simply clean if you don't engage the tube screamer, and dirty if you do, whereas the B goes into dirt more as you turn the gain, even on the clean channel. So the Ib is maybe easier to dial in, but in a more clinical feeling way.

Both had a similar feel, and both felt like a valve amp to me. The reverb on the Blackstar adds a lot, and so the Ibanez suffers by comparison. But the tone control on the Ib gives a lot of variation, and I found it could really tame the bridge pickup on a Strat, without making it all muddy, but could also liven up the neck on my 335. I don't know how it works, but it gave much more variety than one control ought to be able to! Plus there's another, similar, control for the TS.

Overall, I came to the (stunning!) conclusion that the Ibanez is not the best amp ever invented, but is perfectly reasonable for the dirt cheap price Thomann are charging.

Throw in a reverb and I think it could be very nice indeed.
