Anyone got a maya gibson copy

What's Hot
KDSKDS Frets: 211
25 years ago a mate had a maya Gibson acoustic copy. Sadly mate is no longer with us, I don't know what happened to the guitar and I've never seen another.
has anyone seen one?

    Seventies Japanese instruments are one of the specialist interests of @HarrySeven. I doubt that he has such a guitar in his extensive collection but he might know an man who does or, at the very least, where to find original product catalogue information.
    Be seeing you.

    I've not seen a Maya acoustic for a long time, but couple of years ago I had a Maya fretless P-Bass copy. It was made by Matsumoku, although that doesn't necessarily mean the acoustics were, even of the same brand - Japanese companies were often just the owners of the name and sometimes used more than one manufacturer.

    But as Funkfingers said, HarrySeven probably knows more. I'll bet the other way and say he has one :).

    I heard that the acoustics were made by single Japanese luther

    @ICBM - sorry, but you're out!

    I have 0.0001% interest in acoustic guitars, but that doesn't necessarily mean I know nowt about them...

    El Maya - could be an M2, M3 or M4 or if Maya, maybe one of the F-400 series.

    I think the model you may be looking for is an N45J.

    There's an interesting thread here.

    I don't have time to go trawling through my magazine/catalogue archive at the moment, but I have a feeling I might have something tucked away somewhere. If I find anything, I'll let you know. :)

    It is high time that you hired a full-time curator/archivist. Maybe, even, one per warehouse.

    I had an LP copy with Maya on the headstock in 1983. It wasn't bad, but I moved it on when I got a real LP

    @HarrySeven have you ever been into acoustic or just always electrics,? I honestly can't imagine not loving acoustic,  although when I started Learning in the mid 90s I always thought acoustics were starter guitars which then led into electrics! But now I realise it's the other way round .. For me :)

    From the collected posts of Lord Seven, I detect just the faintest suggestion that he may have taken up guitar during the Punk Rock era. The young Seven will also have been steeped in the West Midlands rock music tradition. Electric, amplified and how!

    @Strangefan - Sadly, no...never, ever...I've always thought they weren't for me. Don't like the look, sound, anything (and it's not for want of trying...I've owned loads, but they never stay long).

    @Funkfingers - You disingenuous devil! ;)

    The somewhat vacuous-looking younger me (below, in period band promo pic) was indeed a product of Callaghan and Thatcher's Britain.

    I never learned to play on an acoustic and gravitated towards and electric...the Punk thing got me into raucous stuff from day one - and I've never felt the need to diversify. ;)

    Mine was likewise. However once I got my wine red std I just didn't play the Maya so I let it go. If I could play that guitar again today you never know I might like it but I've got others that I'd play a lot more.

    I found an old 1980/81 review of a couple of Maya electrics ( no acoustics unfortunately). They were pretty much generic Japanese copies ( Srat and Tele ) which I would suspect were branded for the distributor rather than having any deep heritage. As a guide the strat and and tele listed at £118 and £105 respectively while to give it some context a baseline Hondo bolt neck LP was £98 , while a Yamaha SG2000 was £629 ( those were the days ! ). I suspect that, as @Aligorie has alluded to, the majority, if not all would have been decent playable laminate guitars as per the likes of the Kasuga brand, which also had a great line of Martin and Gibson styled acoustics at a budget.
